Gdańsk Centre for Translation Studies Research

Research

The Department hosted two international translation studies conferences (1999 and 2003). Its publications include, inter alia, three volumes of the series Translating the Untranslatable: Vol.1, Gdańsk 2000; Vol.2, Gdańsk 2004; Vol. 3, Gdańsk 2007. The first conference volume, which includes articles by Mona Baker and eminent Polish scholars (Elżbieta Tabakowska, Roman Lewicki, Marta Gibińska, Zbigniew Majchrowski, Jerzy Jarniewicz, Tomasz P. Krzeszowski), is available online.

The staff conduct research on translation: literary translation in cultural context, theory and poetics of translation, simultaneous and consecutive interpreting, specialised translation, including business, legal, medical and IT translation, as well corpus-based translation studies.
